Equine Assisted Therapy, for children, young people and adults, with Tracy

  • Equine assisted therapy works by developing and experiencing a connection to the horses. It can help us develop self awareness, observational skills and attunement to the horses and ourselves, whilst experiencing a safe connection. The therapeutic relationship between the client and therapist is key so it is important you or your child feels comfortable with me
  • The horses I work with are cared for in a natural and gentle way to ensure that they can be authentic as a horse, and true to their nature. We work with the horses by asking for their co operation and at all times they are treated kindly and respectfully
  • The horses and us work collaboratively and the horses are not available to ride or pet at will. The horses invite and welcome touch often, but they have the autonomy to behave as they naturally wish and this is an important part of equine therapy – respecting the animals and how they want to engage with us
  • Within equine assisted psychotherapy we talk about reciprocity, the mutual benefit shared between equine and client in our sessions. This is important to consider so that we are not taking from the horse and in doing so missing an opportunity to consider the horses needs and preferences. If we create conditions of connection and safety, the horse may also share in the benefit of equine assisted therapy sessions. When we let go of what we think should happen, and allow the process to unfold, what wants to happen can emerge
